Parliament to reduce alimony time
A majority of parliament wants to shorten the period over which partner alimony is due. It became clear on Wednesday the maximum of a 12-year-period is considered too long. However, the parties can not yet agree on an acceptable term.
Former PVV MP, Louis Bontes wants to reduce the maximum term from twelve to five years, but most of the other fractions think his proposed legislation won't work out for stay-at-home older spouses.

Additionally, the right to alimony ceases the moment the former spouse remarried, moves in with someone else, or engages in a registered partnership.
