Dutch province wants Vitens to work with Israel

Overijssel wants Dutch largest drinking water supplier Vitens to resume working with Israel’s national water company Mekorot. Vitens Logo The province, which is a shareholder in Vitens, has passed a motion urging Vitens to continue working with Mekorot, Nos reported. The motion, by PVV, was adopted by 28 to 17 votes. It was supported by CDA, VVD, Christian Union and SGP. In December, Vitens decided to cut its working relationship with Israel’s national water company due to its presence in the West Bank. The company said it could not continue cooperative projects with its Israeli counterpart. “It is ridiculous that Vitens has taken such a decision on the basis of political considerations. A public company such as Vitens, which has a monopoly of service, cannot carry out foreign politics,” The motion states. In addition, the province also called for a meeting of shareholders of Vitens.
