High end jeweler Siebel closed

High-end jewelry chain Siebel has closed its doors. Company management announced today that it has shut the doors to all 36 branches as well as the webshop and that it is now considering what its future will bring. “As soon as there is information available, we will inform our customers and customers,” the company said. Siebel, established in 1912 in Rotterdam, employs some 170 people. Union FNV speculated that the company is bankrupt, but a Siebel spokesperson refuted this. FNV has said the closure comes as a surprised; personnel was only informed on Thursday and that a curator has been appointed. “This does look like bankruptcy. We are assuming the worst,” FNV board member Niels Suijker said. The closure also came as a surprise to clients, some of whom had ordered high-end merchandise from the company or had brought in jewelry for repairs, but Siebel said it will find a suitable arrangement for its customers. The company’s website is overly descriptive on what customers should do. “All jewelry that has been brought in for repairs is secured; we are looking at hot to get these back to you, the customer,” the site says, assuring customers that their properties and orders were safe. Customers are also requested to call or email. Siebel celebrated its 100th anniversary in March 2012 and was granted the label "Royal" in 2013.
