Plundering funeral treasurer spotted in Switzerland

The man who plundered the bank account of the funeral association of Denekamp is probably in Switzerland, police have reported.

A police spokesman said today there are reports that 53-year-old Van G., who served as treasurer of the funeral association of the town in Overijssel and was also a town council member has been spotted there. She declined to give more information. Van G. vanished on Friday January 3, after transferring €21,000 from the association’s money to his private account, leaving the organisation broke. The association has since filed reports against him for fraud and embezzlement. Lokaal Dinkelland, the local political party, has since removed Van G. from its list of candidates for the next municipal elections.
