Compulsory insurance, pensions for self-employed, freelancers

The top official in the Ministry of Economic Affairs calls for new economic reforms to allow self-employed people, including freelancers, to get compulsory pension and disability protection. Laptop Desks / Flickr Secretary General Maarten Camps said it his traditional New Year's article in the economics journal ESB that about 10% of the Dutch people are self-employed and more people are expected to become self-employed or freelancer workers in coming years. He called for a regime to cover all employees and self-employed workers, including freelancers, Volkskrant reported on Friday. He said the future labour market needs a system that encourages flexibility.
