Surge in mobile internet use

In the Netherlands, the use of mobile internet has increased in 2013. Mobile Computing / Flickr In 2013, more than 70% of 12- to 75-year-olds used mobile internet, compared to over 60% in 2012 and 10% in 2005, according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Tuesday. The revenues of the companies have decreased in recent years due to increasing use of mobile internet and less use of SMS. People are increasingly using mobile internet applications instead of texting and calling, CBS said. The number of sent SMS messages decreased to 4.3 billion in 2012 from 5.7 billion in 2011.
