Dutchman busted with €2m in drugs

A 57-year-old Dutchman was arrested in Newcastle, England, after border patrol officers there found over a hundred kilos of heroin and cocaine in his possession. The man, Johannes Huizer, was travelling with a truck by ferry from the Netherlands. His container was also found to be holding 150kg of cannabis, and 50kg of amphetamines when it was inspected at the Port of Tyne. 30 kilos of cocaine seized from hand luggage at Schiphol leads to the arrest of seven (Koninklijke Marechaussee/Facebook) Border Force officers estimate the street value of the drugs to be about £1.5 million (€1.8 million), writes the News Guardian. The arrest was made on December 7, and he was formally charged with importing Class A and Class B drugs ten days later. “This was an excellent seizure by our officers and it has kept a large amount of harmful drugs off our streets," said Border Force assistant director Christine Brown. After his initial court appearance, he was remanded until a follow-up court hearing on January 2. "We will continue to work hard to keep our borders safe and crack down on drug smuggling,” Brown said.
