80k euro demanded for Explosives House cleanup
The City of Den Helder is reclaiming almost 80,000 euros from Johanna K., the 66-year-old woman who was arrested in August because she kept ammunition, illegal fireworks, chemicals, and (parts of) weapons in her home, announced the City Wednesday.The amount reclaimed involves expenses, made in the period after the weaponry was found, according to the City. The discovery led to the neighborhood being closed off, and local residents had to be evacuated. It took explosives experts days to scrutinize the house inch by inch.

Last Monday the court lifted the city ban that was imposed. This was done on the condition that she coöperate in a psychiatric evaluation in anticipation of her trial. Now that K. is allowed back into her hometown, she can make arrangements, in consultations with the City, to make her home architecturally sound again. The house is sealed and can not be occupied until it is completely safe. K. was released from custody in October. One of the conditions was that she stay away from Den Helder.
