Amsterdam: Data Centres Agree to Reduce Energy Use

The data centres in city of Amsterdam have agreed to reduce the energy use, Telecom Paper reports. Data Centre / Flickr The city plans to save 68 megawatt-hour (MWh) within three years. It is expected that the sector will invest around €16.3 million in the period to reduce energy use, including the installation of more efficient cooling systems, the paper said. Many companies have volunteered to participate in the city initiative to save energy. For other companies, the government can use the Environmental Management Act to force businesses to reduce energy consumption within five years, the paper said.
In total, the around 40 data centres in Amsterdam are expected to use 460 MWh of electricity in 2013, according to the paper.
