Bunschotenweg's New Quay

A new dock on Bunschotenweg, the Netherlands is ready for construction. The contract is between the United Waalhaven Terminals (UWT) and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, based on dredgingtoday’s report. Derek Cheung/flickr The quay in the Johan Friso Haven will house short sea vessels and inland vessels at a depth of 7 meters and a span of 135 meters. It is intended for managing both empty and full containers. It will help UWT as the move from truck to inland shipping continues to rise. The project is included in the reform of Bunschotenweg. UWT is setting up a new programme for the trucks to control traffic and to lessen the strain on public roads. It will enable prospects for mixing unfilled and packed containers, which is vital for inland shipping to and from the Maasvlakte. It will also save 45 minutes of time for the trucks. The first phase of the construction will start in October and it is expected to finish by 2015.
