Leiden Suspect in Costa Rica

The boy suspected to have posted a threat in the forum 4chan.org has recently visited the Dutch Embassy in Costa Rica. A spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed a report from RTL Nieuws. The 18-year-old boy was found in a hotel in San Jose. He was broke and should have voluntarily gone to the embassy. The suspect legally entered Costa Rica and thus could continue to stay there. According to RTL, the embassy would be willing to pay for his ticket back home. Costa Rica has no extradition treaty with the Netherlands. Earlier this week, Mayor Henry Lenferink of Leiden closed high schools and MBOs in the city as a precaution because of the threat. On Wednesday, the police in Leiden stopped guarding the schools because the 18-year-old suspect was in Costa Rica and could not carry out his threat. It is likely that the boy in Costa Rica is the same person the police suspect of threat, which can lead to imprisonment for two years.
