Video: 1 dead after Huizen house explosion and fire
A person has died following a powerful explosion and house fire in Huizen. According to NH, the police have concluded a crime did not cause the blast.
The explosion struck a duplex home on Gooilandweg on Thursday afternoon. Two people were injured. One of the victims has since died, police said Friday. Officers declined to confirm the victim's identity or say whether the person was the home's resident.
After the explosion and fire, an urban search and rescue team looked in the house for a possible third victim. No one else was found.
The blast tore away parts of the townhouse's facade. Debris was scattered across the street and into the front and back gardens, with large holes left in the roof. Twelve neighboring homes were evacuated because the building was feared to be unstable. Some residents were allowed to return later that evening.
A spokesperson for the Midden-Nederland police said the investigation into the explosion and fire has been completed. Police found no indication of foul play.
The Veiligheidsregio Gooi- en Vechtstreek is continuing to investigate the cause of the explosion and what went wrong inside the home.
