KPN connects 86,000 households to fibre in strong quarterly rollout

KPN expanded its fibre-optic network significantly in the first quarter, connecting 86,000 additional households. Including its joint venture Glaspoort with pension fund ABP, the total number of households connected now stands at almost 5.9 million.

The telecom company has been focusing on the rollout of fibre-optic networks for some time. By the end of last year, just over 5.8 million households were connected to its high-speed internet service. CEO Joost Farwerck stated that the company continues to lead the Dutch fibre market.

KPN reported revenue of almost 1.5 billion euros in the latest quarter, representing a 2.1 percent year-on-year increase. Net profit rose to 200 million euros, up 19 percent compared with the same period last year.

In the first quarter of 2025, KPN reported lower profits, driven by expenses linked to the launch of its new venture Althio. The company, a joint project with pension fund ABP focused on mobile network infrastructure, is 51 percent owned by KPN.

“While the geopolitical environment remains volatile, KPN’s financial results demonstrate resilience,” said Farwerck. As a result, the telecom company is reaffirming its expectations for 2026 as well as its medium-term targets.

KPN plans to connect 85 percent of Dutch households to its fibre network by 2030. The rollout did experience some delays at the start of this year, caused by winter conditions.

KPN reported higher mobile network usage during King’s Day, with mobile data traffic on Monday up 14 percent compared with the same holiday last year.
