Boy, 14, missing since April now believed to be in Poland; Possibly headed to Russia
Maxim, a 14-year-old from Apeldoorn, has been missing since April 18, 2026. Police now believe he may be in Poland, and the Polish authorities have issued an appeal including his photo and description. Police said today they are seriously considering the possibility that 14-year-old Maxim could be travelling towards Russia, the AD reports.
Maxim left the Zuidbroek neighbourhood on April 18, around midday, on his bike, and has not been seen since. Police have expanded the search step by step, first towards Twente, then Germany, and later Poland and further east. They are considering the possibility that he may have travelled a long distance by bicycle or with assistance, although this has not been confirmed.
Maxim is 14 years old and about 150–160 cm tall. He has light hair, possibly shaved. He was last seen wearing black Nike clothing, carrying a red/orange backpack, and riding a grey women’s bicycle of the Stella brand.
Police investigations suggest that the boy likely prepared his journey carefully. Even though he left with only a few belongings, there are signs that it was a conscious choice. Police currently believe Maxim left voluntarily, which is also why no Amber Alert has been issued, as that is reserved for situations involving immediate danger from a crime.
The family, via a spokesperson from Namens de Familie, said they are hoping to have him back home soon. They report good communication with the police and say they are grateful for the large amount of support they are receiving.
