Young child dies at Vlaardingen daycare center
A young child died at a daycare center on Erasmusplein in Vlaardingen on Tuesday morning. There are no indications of a crime, but the police are investigating as a precaution, a police spokesperson told AD.
Emergency services responded to the daycare center after a report that a resuscitation was needed. First responders did what they could, but the child died at the scene.
Mayor Frederik Zevenbergen said on social media that he learned of the child’s death with great sadness. “This is an unimaginable sorrow for the family and others. My thoughts go out to them first and foremost.”
“I sympathize with the staff at the daycare center, the children and parents present, and with the emergency services personnel who were on the scene,” the mayor said.
Zevenbergen added that the police were investigating and that “therefore, restraint is appropriate.”
“I wish everyone affected by this terrible loss a great deal of strength,” the mayor concluded.
