Hundreds protest in Amsterdam against Iran war

Between 200 and 300 people gathered Sunday afternoon on the Dam in Amsterdam to protest the ongoing war in Iran, which has been targeted since late last month by Israeli and U.S. forces.

The demonstration was organized by the International Foundation for Iranian Women. Participants are supporters of Maryam Rajavi, president of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

Protesters waved flags and chanted “no shah, no mullah.” The atmosphere remained calm, according to an ANP reporter, while police maintained a visible presence to monitor the crowd.

The demonstration opposed the current regime of Supreme Leader Khamenei, who succeeded his executed father, and expressed rejection of Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former shah and the official crown prince, as a potential future leader should the Islamic regime fall.

“I was arrested by the shah, tortured. After the revolution, family members were executed by the regime,” one organizer said. “The victims of the war are the people. We are for democracy and support the resistance of the Iranian people.”

A small number of protesters carried Israeli flags and were kept separate from the main group. Several Kurdish flags were also visible, reflecting Rajavi’s support for an independent Kurdistan.
