Suspect arrested in Amsterdam assault on JA21 party leader

Amsterdam police have arrested a suspect in the assault and robbery of Kevin Kreuger, outgoing JA21 party leader, following a Tuesday evening incident at Osdorpplein. Kreuger was kicked in the head after attending an election debate.

Police said the assault occurred after Kreuger made a remark about someone’s behavior. Kreuger told Amsterdam broadcaster AT5 that he had confronted young men who threw an ice cream at a woman. “I said something about it and immediately got a mouthful. Then I took out my phone to film them, and they beat me up,” he said.

The arrested man faces charges of public violence, attempted manslaughter, and robbery with violence in association. Kreuger expressed his appreciation for the police on X, writing, “My thanks and appreciation toward our police is great.”

Authorities are still seeking three other individuals involved in the attack. Police said the suspects were captured on video and warned the footage may be made public if the remaining suspects do not come forward.
