Speedskater Jutta Leerdam’s husband, Jake Paul, wins Trump political endorsement

Dutch Olympic champion ice skater Jutta Leerdam’s fianceé, Jake Paul, has received a political endorsement from U.S. President Donald Trump for a future political career. Paul, an influencer turned boxer, has been very supportive of Trump in the past.

On stage, Trump suggested that Paul possesses the charisma and broad appeal required to succeed in elections. Trump called him a “fantastic, courageous, and talented man,” while adding that he would offer his “full support” should Paul choose to pursue a political career, saying he believes Paul could ultimately become a successful politician. Paul expressed his gratitude to the president, saying Trump had taught him “courage” and that they “never back down from a fight.”

Paul and Leerdam became a couple in 2023 after Paul had approached her online. They are now considered one of the most famous influencer celebrity couples despite Leerdam’s success as an Ice Skater. The couple announced their engagement around a year ago.

During the discussions, Trump also commented on Leerdam. The article says he appeared impressed by her and at one point asked, “Where is Jutta?” when Paul showed up without her at the campaign event at Verst Logistics in Hebron, Kentucky.

Leerdam reached the pinnacle of her career in February by claiming the gold medal in the 1000 meters at the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics, setting a new Olympic record of 1:12.31. Paul was in attendance and was captured on camera in the stands, moved as he cheered for his fiancée.

The U.S. President mentioned several reasons that Paul would make a good politician; these include a huge following on social media, an ability to reach young voters, and, like Trump, Paul portrays himself as an entrepreneur, a media personality, and a political outsider. “I'm going to make a prediction that you will be, in the not too distant future, running for political office,” Trump said.

Paul has been very supportive of Trump’s political career over the years. For example, he shared a video showing him and Trump in a boxing-style “staredown,” adding a caption urging people to help Trump beat his rivals. He also called on his followers to vote for Trump, also stating that he is unable to vote in the U.S. elections due to living in Puerto Rico.
