No trains at Amsterdam Zuid Feb. 28–March 1 as major station work continues

No trains will run to or from Amsterdam Zuid on Saturday, Feb. 28, or Sunday, March 1, as rail authorities carry out signal adjustments tied to a major station reconstruction, officials said Monday. The station will remain accessible by metro, but travelers should expect longer journeys and plan ahead using the national trip planner, ProRail reports.

The weekend shutdown coincides with construction by Zuidasdok—a partnership of ProRail, the municipality of Amsterdam and Rijkswaterstaat—to modernize the station area. Crews will adjust signals so that, beginning Monday, March 2, trains can stop and depart roughly 100 meters farther west, toward Parnassusweg.

During the same window, workers will advance construction on a future bicycle and pedestrian tunnel linking Antonio Vivaldistraat with Beatrixpark. The passage—known as the Vivaldipassage—is part of the broader station renewal.

Rail officials said the changes are required ahead of the planned opening, by 2027, of the new passenger passage at Amsterdam Zuid, the Brittenpassage, which will sit about 200 meters west of the current access. To accommodate that shift, both platforms have already been extended beyond Parnassusweg, necessitating the relocation of stopping points now.
