Spring is coming: Thermometers could hit 20 degrees Celsius tomorrow

Today, the Netherlands will be gray, drizzly, and mild, with highs up to 13 degrees Celsius. But tomorrow will feel like spring, with clear skies and plenty of sunshine. Locally, maximums will climb to 19 degrees Celsius, Weeronline reported. Limburg could even hit 20 degrees, according to Buienradar. The rest of the week will be a bit cooler, but still decidedly mild for the time of year.

First, a predominantly cloudy and gray Tuesday with scattered drizzle across the country. By this afternoon, the drizzle will be limited to the north and northeast, but cloud cover will prevail everywhere until the evening. Temperatures will eventually reach a maximum of 10 degrees in the north and 12 or 13 degrees in the south. The wind will be light to moderate and from the south.

Late this evening, some clear spells will appear in the south, gradually expanding northward. The night will be noticeably mild, with minimums between 8 and 10 degrees.

Wednesday morning will start cloudy and foggy in the north, central, and eastern parts of the country. Regionally, there may be dense fog, reducing visibility below 50 meters. By Wednesday afternoon, the weather will be sunny almost everywhere. Temperatures will range between 15 degrees in the northeast, 17 degrees in the center, and 19 degrees in the south. Some places in Limburg could even hit the 20-degree Celsius mark. Areas near cold water surfaces, like the Wadden Islands and around the IJsselmeer, will be a bit cooler.

Weeronline expects a beautiful sunset on Wednesday evening, with mostly clear skies apart from a few cloud formations. “There will also be some Saharan dust in the air, making for a spectacular sunset,” meteorologist Floris Lafeber said.

On Thursday, the wind will shift to the southwest and increase to moderate to strong in coastal areas, bringing cloud cover and less mild air into the country.

“Temperatures will begin to drop in the afternoon,” the Weeronline meteorologist said. In coastal areas, the mercury will drop from 13 to 10 degrees Celsius early in the afternoon. The east will see afternoon temperatures around 15 degrees. “There will be quite a lot of cloud, occasional light rain or a light shower, and occasional sunshine.”

Friday will also see clouds and light rain. Currently, Saturday and Sunday look set to be mostly dry with some sunshine. “With an average high of 12 degrees Celsius, it will remain mild for this time of year,” said Lafeber. Typically, the Netherlands sees maximums of around 8 degrees Celsius at the end of February and early March.
