Video: Second dolphin washes ashore in Frisian village of Wierum in days

A second dolphin washed ashore near the Frisian village of Wierum on Friday, just days after another dolphin was found at the same location. Walkers discovered the animal hundreds of meters out on the mudflats at low tide. By the time animal rescue personnel arrived, the dolphin had already died, Hart van Nederland reported.

A staff member from the animal ambulance, assisted by a bystander, dragged the dolphin to the shore and placed it on a stretcher. The animal was then transported to Utrecht for examination.

Officials said it is unusual for dolphins to appear in the Wadden Sea, as they are not native to the area.

The first dolphin appeared on the same spot last Wednesday. That animal was alive when found and was taken to a rehabilitation center in Anna Paulowna, where it was named Djay-Lynn.
