Alleged Jeffrey Epstein victim came forward at U.S. consulate in Amsterdam
A potential Dutch victim of Jeffrey Epstein reported information about the convicted child sex abuser and sex trafficker to the American authorities at the consulate in Amsterdam in 2021, the Telegraaf reports from the Epstein files. The released files hold very few details, but record the reporter as a complainant, not a tipster, and state that the case was referred to the FBI’s child sex abuse unit.
The report dates back to April 2021. The FBI’s assistant legal attaché at the United States embassy in The Hague wrote in an email that an unnamed complainant had contacted the consulate in Amsterdam with information they wanted to provide to the FBI about the “Jeffrey Epstein case.”
The diplomat in The Hague inquired with the FBI office in New York whether a detective was available for the case and whether they could schedule an interview. The case was referred to the FBI’s child sex abuse unit, where a detective replied that he would contact the embassy in The Hague.
If there was any follow-up, it was redacted from the released files.
Epstein was already dead at the time of the report to the consulate in Amsterdam - he took his own life after his arrest in 2019. Two days before the Dutch person approached the consulate, it was reported that an American court had rejected a request from an Epstein victim to invalidate a 2008 settlement reached by the prosecutors with Epstein and other co-defendants.
The U.S. Department of Justice released over 3 million Epstein-related documents at the behest of Congress on Friday. This is the third Dutch connection in the documents. Two Dutch models, Yfke Sturm and Sylvia Geersen, are also mentioned. Both had years-long contact with Epstein after his 2008 conviction for sexually abusing a child.
Sturm said she regrets her earlier contact with Epstein. “With what I know now, I see that my earlier involvement was a serious misjudgment,” she said. “At the time, I was naive and did not fully understand who Epstein was or the harm he caused. I deeply regret that.”
Geersen feels like a victim. “I was 21 and completely overwhelmed by what I experienced. I never dared to talk to anyone about what happened during that period. It was traumatic.”
