Video: Man killed, woman seriously injured in head-on collision on N377 near Dedemsvaart

A 55-year-old man from Assen died Saturday morning after a head-on collision on the N377 near Dedemsvaart, just over the Drenthe border, police said. The sole occupant of the other vehicle, a 44-year-old woman from Ommen, suffered serious injuries and required hospitalization.

The crash occurred near the exit to the center of Dedemsvaart. According to Overijssel police, the two cars collided frontally, leaving both vehicles heavily damaged. Debris was scattered across the roadway and into the roadside embankment.

Emergency services, including fire crews, police, and ambulances, responded immediately. A privacy screen was erected at the scene. Police confirmed that the two victims were the only occupants of their respective cars and suffered severe injuries.

“The impact was significant. Both victims were alone in their vehicles and were in critical condition,” a police spokesperson said.
