Amsterdam prosecutor says suspect in 17-year-old Lisa’s killing may never be identified

René de Beukelaer, chief public prosecutor in Amsterdam, stated that it is possible the prosecution may never identify the suspect responsible for the death of 17-year-old Lisa. “I nearly expect that to be the case,” he said.

On Tuesday evening’s talk show, Eva, René de Beukelaer, criminal lawyer Veerle Hammerstein, and host Eva Jinek discussed the violent death of Lisa from Abcoude. The 17-year-old was killed in Duivendrecht during the night of August 19–20.

The suspect in the girl’s murder is reportedly 22 years old and possibly from Nigeria, although authorities have not confirmed this. He is believed to have traveled from Nigeria through Tunisia, Italy, France, and Germany to reach the Netherlands, and is without identification documents.

The suspect has provided the name “Chris Jude,” but without official documents, his true identity remains unclear. “It is quite possible that we will never know his real name,” De Beukelaer stated. DNA evidence connects him to Lisa’s death, and the chief public prosecutor noted that the lack of a confirmed identity will not hinder the legal proceedings.

Referring to a report in Het Parool, Jinek asked De Beukelaer how the Amsterdam newspaper got personal information about the suspect. The chief public prosecutor said he did not know. “Many people, by virtue of their position, have access to the file,” De Beukelaer explained, “but I find it appalling that such details are shared with a journalist.”

The suspect appeared in court publicly for the first time on November 25. This was a preliminary procedural hearing, with the substantive case to be heard later. The suspect is not cooperating with the investigation, stating that he cannot recall the events. He has also reported hearing voices, suggesting possible mental health problems, and is being evaluated at the Pieter Baan Centre.
