Farmer angered by photojournalist taking car fire photos, sprays him with water

In Westerhoven, Noord-Brabant, a farmer helping to put out a car fire became angry at a photojournalist attempting to take pictures and sprayed him with a water hose, damaging his equipment.

A man was driving his car on a provincial road in Westerhoven on Saturday evening when he noticed smoke coming from the hood, NOS reported. The concerned driver pulled over, and the farmer from the nearby property used a groundwater pump to help extinguish the fire.

When the photojournalist arrived and tried to take pictures, the farmer sprayed him with a water hose after calling him "a disaster tourist" and telling him to "get lost." According to the reporter, the water hit him forcefully. "I got completely soaked," he said.

The journalist plans to file a police report, claiming the farmer obstructed his work. He also reported the incident to PersVeilig, an organization set up to address aggression against the media.

The owner of the damaged car told the journalist that he had recently been proud that his vehicle had reached 500,000 kilometers.

Firefighters later arrived to fully extinguish the car fire, and the provincial road was closed temporarily while the wreck was towed away.
