One injured in shooting in Amsterdam shopping area; Suspect arrested nearby

A shooting at the Buikslotermeerplein shopping area in Amsterdam left one person injured on Saturday afternoon, and police quickly arrested a suspect in the vicinity, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. in a parking area near the northeast corner of the outdoor shopping center, adjacent to IJdoornlaan and part of the S117 roadway, AT5 reports.

Police, along with two ambulances, responded immediately. A trauma team arrived by helicopter about 15 minutes later.

The condition of the victim has not been disclosed. A police spokesperson said officials could provide little information about their status at this time.

Police confirmed that a suspect was apprehended shortly after the shooting in the surrounding area. Authorities did not release the suspect’s identity or provide details on possible motives.
