PostNL aims for 3,600 parcel lockers and smarter delivery options by 2028
PostNL presented its new growth plans and financial targets for 2028 during its annual investor day on Wednesday. The post and package delivery company expects revenue to exceed 4 billion euros and operating profit to surpass 175 million euros. From 2026, the company aims to open 600 new parcel locker locations annually. A total of 3,600 lockers will be available in the Netherlands by the end of 2028.
“Together with leading webshops, PostNL is also working to shift from ‘next day’ as the standard to ‘best day’ delivery as a smarter alternative,” the company said in a press release. “PostNL will continue next-day deliveries but strongly encourages the choice of best day.” According to the company, this allows webshops and PostNL to spread volumes more efficiently and use the network in a “more sustainable and effective” way.
PostNL also says it aims to grow internationally in the coming years by expanding its subsidiaries Spring and MyParcel into new markets. “This allows the company to tap into the rapidly growing international e-commerce market, particularly in Europe, where it is already active with an extensive network of logistics partners,” the company stated.
PostNL has long been at odds with the government over its request to the Minister of Economic Affairs to exempt the company from the legal obligation to deliver mail. Minister Vincent Karremans (Economic Affairs) previously stated that he would not grant this request. On Wednesday, PostNL emphasized that this would lead to a structural loss for its mail division.
