PostNL, DHL to place 1,000 new parcel lockers across Netherlands

PostNL and DHL will be placing an extra thousand parcel lockers in the Netherlands, most companies have confirmed to De Stentor. The companies felt the urge to add the lockers due to complaints from shop owners who say that the parcels are filling the stores.

Both companies will install 500 new lockers. These lockers are often accessible at any time of day and are increasingly popular. DHL has said that many customers choose to use a locker again after a positive experience.

The package delivery services want to use the lockers to make the collection of parcels more efficient and believe it will help relieve the logistical pressure. “This way, we’re able to prevent overloading,” DHL spokesperson Ewout Blaauw told AD.

DHL already has over 5,000 service points across the country, including more than 2,000 parcel lockers. PostNL is also actively directing customers to its lockers as an alternative to home delivery through its app. The company aims to have 1,600 parcel lockers by the end of this year.
