KLM cancels dozens of flights at Schiphol as ground staff prepare four-hour strike

KLM has canceled numerous flights for Wednesday as ground staff at Schiphol Airport stage a strike, according to the airport’s website.

The action, organized by unions CNV and FNV, follows a similar strike last week, when ground personnel stopped working for two hours from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. This time, staff plan to halt work for four hours.

Ground staff roles include loading and unloading baggage, moving aircraft, and assisting passengers. Disruptions in these areas have significant effects on flight schedules. Last week’s strike led KLM to cancel more than 100 flights.

Earlier attempts to extend strikes were blocked by the courts. Unions sought a 24-hour strike in June and an eight-hour strike in early July, but KLM obtained court rulings to prevent both actions.
