Teen survivor of deadly Roermond fire released from hospital

A 14-year-old boy who survived last week’s deadly house fire in Roermond has been released from the hospital, police and local officials confirmed Monday. His 16-year-old brother, Kyano, and his 51-year-old mother, Peggy, were killed in the blaze.

The boy, identified as Pascal, is now staying with relatives, according to L1 Nieuws. He escaped after neighbors helped him jump from a first-floor window. Police said his injuries were relatively minor.

The fire broke out Tuesday morning around 7:45 a.m. Police announced Thursday that the blaze was deliberately set. Investigators said it is highly unlikely the fire was started by anyone outside the home, citing burn traces found at the scene. Pascal was questioned by police while still in the hospital.

Authorities have released no further details about the ongoing investigation. Roermond Mayor Yolanda Hoogtanders previously stated that the municipality will also review the support process provided to the survivor.
