Rain showers to mark start of meteorological autumn in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is set to experience a wet and variable start to the meteorological autumn, with heavy showers expected in the east and north today and scattered rain across other regions, according to weeronline.

Sunday evening, cloud cover will be extensive, particularly in the eastern half of the country, where precipitation chances rise sharply. “In the coastal provinces it will also not stay dry everywhere; locally heavy showers are possible,” meteorologists said. Temperatures will remain mild, with lows around 15 degrees Celsius, while southern winds weaken over land.

Monday, the first day of meteorological autumn, begins cloudy with rain possible near the German border. Later in the day, the sun may break through, although scattered showers can occur where large cumulus clouds form. The heaviest rain is expected in the north and northeast.

Afternoon temperatures will reach 21 to 23 degrees, with a moderate southwest wind. By evening, most showers will dissipate, leaving clearer skies. At the coast, occasional rain is still possible. Overnight temperatures will drop to approximately 12 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday’s weather will remain largely unchanged. Cloud cover, occasional sun, and scattered showers are expected. Daytime temperatures will reach 21 to 22 degrees with a moderate southern wind. The northwestern coastal areas face the greatest risk of intense showers and possible thunderstorms, while most of the country should stay dry.

Wednesday could bring significant rainfall as an active weather front moves into the country. Forecasters noted some uncertainty regarding the timing of the system’s arrival, with temperatures before the rain ranging between 20 and 21 degrees.

The second half of the week will remain somewhat unsettled, but calmer conditions are expected over the weekend, with temperatures potentially rising slightly.
