Detectives in girl’s murder find knife by Amsterdam asylum center where suspect stayed

The police have found a knife and a telephone during an investigation of the area behind the property of the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) on the Hogehilweg in Amsterdam. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) confirmed this following reports by NU.nl. Authorities are examining whether the discovery is related to the killing of 17-year-old Lisa.

Police conducted searches in the water behind the building on Tuesday afternoon. According to the OM, the investigation is connected to the girl’s death.

Multiple media outlets report that the COA location is where the 22-year-old suspect in the murder was staying. Police, the OM, and COA have not confirmed this. The suspect will spend at least two more weeks in custody, an examining magistrate ruled on Monday.

The man had been arrested on Thursday. He is also accused of a sexual assault on the Weesperzijde in Amsterdam on August 15, and another case related to sexual assault, which took place on August 10.

The reception center is near Holterbergweg in Duivendrecht, where Lisa was fatally attacked. Police discovered her body along the roadside during the early hours on Wednesday. Shortly before, she had called the police, reporting that she had been attacked.

At a press conference last week, Police Chief Peter Holla stated that the young woman’s body showed multiple stab and cut wounds, including in the neck.

The murder caused widespread outrage throughout the country, with campaigns being launched to push for more safety for women. A total of over 42,000 euros has been raised for the campaign “We Reclaim the Night.”
