Four people rescued from house fire in Amsterdam’s Oud-Zuid

Firefighters pulled four people from a burning home in Amsterdam late Friday night after heavy smoke trapped them inside, NOS reported.

The fire broke out just before midnight in a residence on J.J. Viottastraat in the Oud-Zuid district, where a bed on the first floor had caught fire, according to the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region.

The four individuals were on the second floor at the time and were unable to escape through the thick smoke. Fire crews entered the building and brought them out using special combitox masks, which were connected to the firefighters’ air cylinders. These devices allowed the victims to breathe and be carried safely through the smoke-filled rooms.

By around 12:30 a.m., the fire was extinguished. The four people were transported to a hospital for treatment after inhaling smoke. Authorities reported no other injuries.
