Cool, mostly dry summer weather at SAIL Amsterdam this weekend

SAIL fever has definitely struck Amsterdam, and the weather should play along nicely for those planning to visit the nautical event today or over the weekend. The days will be cool for the summer, with maximum temperatures around 19 degrees, and mostly dry, despite cloud cover predominating on Friday, according to Weeronline.

The SAIL Amsterdam organizers expect a total of 2.4 million visitors over the five days of the event. The first two days were “busy, but manageable,” with long lines forming on the quays to board the tall ships on Thursday. The weekend days tend to be the busiest days of the event, which is back in Amsterdam after a 10-year absence.

Among other things, Friday’s program includes a ferry parade, a canal cruise with historic ships, a marine roadshow, and performances by Mr. Belt & Wezol, Kris Kross Amsterdam & friends, Zoë Tauran, and DJ Robert Abigail. The full program can be found on the organizer’s website.

The weather in Amsterdam will be cloudy on Friday, with more room for sunshine on Saturday and Sunday. A shower or two may fall on Friday morning and evening, and on Saturday morning. Maximums will climb to 19 degrees with a weak-to-moderate northwesterly wind.

In the rest of the Netherlands, the weekend will be changeable, with clouds moving from north to south, occasionally bringing a shower. “It will also be cool for August, with highs of 17 to 20 degrees Celsius, and from Sunday onwards, there will be some cold nights,” Weeronline reported. The cooler-than-average August temperatures are due to the mostly moderate wind from the north to northwest.

After the weekend, the wind will shift easterly for a while, and temperatures will rise considerably. On Tuesday and Wednesday, thermometers will hit summer values of 25 degrees or slightly higher. After that, the chance of showers will increase significantly, and it will be back to more changeable weather.
