Good chance of regional heat wave this week; Temps over 30 in most places

The Netherlands is in for hot summer weather this week, with temperatures climbing to 30 degrees in the south today and almost everywhere on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a good chance that the south and east of the country will meet the conditions of a regional heatwave by Thursday, according to Weeronline.

Today, temperatures will rise rapidly and almost everywhere will reach summer values of 25 degrees or higher. Maximums will range between 25 degrees in the north and 30 degrees in the south, with only the Wadden Islands maybe not hitting the 25 degrees mark. “There’s hardly any cloud in sight and a light easterly wind,” Weeronline said.

On Tuesday, it will be tropically warm - maximums of 30 degrees or higher - almost everywhere, with he exception of Groningen, Friesland, and the northern part of Noord-Holland. Their maximums will climb to between 26 and 29 degrees. In the southeast, temperatures could reach 34 degrees. A few cirrus clouds will pass over, but it will remain dry, with a moderate easterly wind.

Wednesday will also see tropical temperatures in many places, but this time with a moderate westerly wind. Temperatures in the western provinces will climb to 26 to 28 degrees. Further inland will reach 30 to 33 degrees locally.

“The days that follow will remain very warm for this time of year,” Weeronline said. “Inland, there’s still a chance of 30 degrees Celsius, but elsewhere it will also be summery warm with a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius.” There is a greater chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms from Thursday.

The conditions for a heatwave are five consecutive days of maximums above 25 degrees, including three days with temperatures above 30 degrees. According to Weeronline, regional heatwaves are likely in the south and east this week.
