Two men posing as detectives arrested after wave of scam attempts in Noord-Holland
Police in Noord-Holland arrested two men Monday in Aerdenhout after multiple reports of fraud involving fake detectives posing as police officers were received across the province, including one incident in Zandvoort.
According to the police, one report came from a resident in Zandvoort who was approached by a man claiming to be from the criminal investigation department. The suspect warned of an imminent burglary and told the resident that all valuable items needed to be handed over “for safekeeping.” The resident did not fall for the scam and immediately alerted authorities.
Responding officers in Aerdenhout spotted two men in a vehicle that matched descriptions from the reports. Police stopped the car and found evidence inside that indicated previous fraudulent activity. The suspects — a 20-year-old man from Tilburg and a 21-year-old from Rotterdam — were arrested on the spot. The car was confiscated, and both men were taken into custody.
Police urge residents to remain alert and remind the public that officers will never come to your door to collect money, bank cards, or valuables. “Is someone at your door asking to take your possessions for safety? Then it's likely a scam. Call 112 immediately,” the police advised.
