Missing toddler in Utrecht found safe after days-long search
A nearly 1-year-old girl who had been missing from Utrecht since Tuesday was found safe Saturday night after her mother turned herself in to police with the child, NOS reports.
Authorities had suspected the mother of taking the girl after a judge ruled in an emergency procedure earlier in the week that the child must be removed from her care. Police said there had been serious concerns about the toddler’s well-being.
“The girl and her mother have now been transferred to agencies responsible for their care,” police stated in a public update. “Thank you for sharing [the alert] and looking out for them.”
According to RTV Utrecht, the mother leads an unstable, transient life and is known to multiple aid organizations in the city.
Both mother and child disappeared without a trace on Tuesday, immediately after the court issued the out-of-home placement order.
