Odido outage impacting mobile clients, also for Simpel and Ben

Odido is struggling with a major outage on its mobile network. The outage site Allestoringen.nl shows outage reports increasing since 2:00 a.m. on Friday, also for the other brands that use Odido’s network, Simpel and Ben.

An Odido spokesperson confirmed the outage to ANP, saying it mainly impacts mobile calling and SMS. The company says it has 7 million mobile clients. Online, Odido customers are also complaining about internet issues.

According to the Odido spokesperson, the cause of the outage is still unknown.

Rijnmond Veilig reported that the emergency services in the Rotterdam region were having problems with mobile calls via Odido. The emergency services are convening to assess the impact. The national emergency number 112 is still available.

There are also reports of outages for KPN and VodafoneZiggo. A spokesperson for the latter telecom company told NOS that they are not dealing with an outage. “It’s not uncommon for our customers to report an outage when there is an outage with another provider. In this case, it’s because they can’t reach Odido customers.”

According to NU.nl, Odido has been struggling a lot with outages in recent months. In mid-June, the company dealt with a DNS outage, the aftermath of that outage, and later a cable break in the mobile network within three days. At the end of June, there was another outage.
