Suspect in the death of S10’s twin brother to remain in custody for two more weeks
The 23-year-old man from Hoorn suspected of involvement in the death of singer S10’s twin brother will remain in custody for another 14 days after 60 days of pre-trial detention. “The case will come before the examining magistrate again in two weeks,” said a spokesperson for the court.
The suspect was arrested in May. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) wants to have its pre-trial detention extended by another 30 days, but the court did not go along with this request. “The defense lawyer had not received the latest documents in time. The court is giving the lawyer time to prepare for the hearing before the examining chamber,” the court spokesperson explained.
In addition to the 23-year-old, another suspect from Hoorn, aged 30, is also in pre-trial detention. He will appear in public for the first time in October during a preliminary hearing at the court.
S10’s twin brother was found seriously injured on April 16 on the roof of a garage at the base of an apartment building on Osdorper Ban in Amsterdam. Before that, he had spent several hours in a flat in the building, where he may have been held against his will. He died from his injuries on June 19.
The victim’s relatives were not informed. “At no point have we been notified about recent developments in the case, not about decisions regarding the suspect’s pre-trial detention, nor about the fact that the first hearing will take place in October,” said victim lawyers Sébas Diekstra and Julia Mekkes. “It is truly unacceptable that the next of kin are not informed in any way about such essential steps in the legal process and have to find out through the media what is happening in their own case.”
