Eurovision singer S10's twin brother dies from injuries after botched kidnapping

The twin brother of Singer S10 was pronounced dead this week due to injuries sustained in a fall from the fourth-story of an Amsterdam apartment building where he was allegedly being held hostage for ransom. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) made the announcement on Thursday, adding that they have upgraded the charges against the main suspect in the case.

Emiel den Hollander, 24, from Hoorn, had been in a coma in critical condition for the past two months after falling from a flat on the Osdorper Ban in Amsterdam Nieuw-West on April 16. “The OM can now officially confirm the death of the victim,” prosecutors said in a statement on Thursday.

A 23-year-old man from Hoorn, who has been in pre-trial detention for nearly a month, is now suspected of “committing murder [or] manslaughter, and unlawful deprivation of liberty resulting in death,” the OM said. Previous reports suggest the victim was either pushed from the apartment or fell while attempting to escape violence within the flat.

Police previously said the victim was likely in the apartment from about 1:30 p.m. up until he was found wounded at about 7 p.m. He was being held hostage in the residence, Den Hollander’s mother claimed. The alleged kidnapper demanded ransom, the Telegraaf reported in May.

Den Hollander sustained severe injuries, including brain damage, a broken neck, broken ribs, a punctured lung, a broken hip and broken shoulder blades, after landing on the roof of a garage. A couple who heard the impact rushed to his aid and called emergency services.

Police initially arrested the 60-year-old resident of the flat. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested on May 21, initially on suspicion of unlawful deprivation of liberty resulting in serious injury, and in connection with multiple burglaries. The charge was later expanded to include attempted manslaughter before this week’s upgrade to murder or manslaughter following Den Hollander’s death.

Singer S10, who performed the Dutch entry for Eurovision in 2022, canceled several performances, including the kick-off of her new tour in Zwolle and her performance at the Paaspop festival, due to “personal problems” following the April incident. Her mother only later confirmed rumors that the incident left S10's twin brother in a coma.
