Record €35 million transfer of David Hancko to Al-Nassr falls through, Feyenoord shocked

The transfer of Feyenoord defender David Hancko to Saudi Arabian club AI Nassr has been cancelled at the last phase, Director spokesperson Raymond Salomon has confirmed, following reports from various media outlets.

Feyenoord were set to receive a record fee of over 35 million euros for the Slovakian defender, who had been the subject of interest from AI Nassr in the past. The deal was not finalized on that occasion, and that has proven to be the case once more.

“It’s disgraceful how the people at Al-Nassr treated David. He had reached an agreement with Al-Nassr, and so had we. Then they let him come to the training camp only to suddenly tell him he is no longer welcome there. That has never happened before,” Salomon said.

Hancko will now re-join Feyenoord’s squad at the club’s training camp in Grassau. Salomon: "Al-Nassr’s training camp is an hour and a half away from us. For now, we want to give David a calm place here with us. I don’t work for Al-Nassr, but everything points to him becoming a victim of a power struggle; one side wants him, the other doesn’t."

Feyenoord does not yet know whether it will take legal action. "This is also a total surprise for us. It happened just a few hours ago. I can’t say anything meaningful about it yet," Salomon said.
