German windsurfer, 60, drowns in Zeeland’s lake Veere despite rescue efforts

A 60-year-old German windsurfer drowned Saturday afternoon in Lake Veere near the Campensweg in Kamperland, Zeeland, authorities said.

Emergency services were alerted around 1:30 p.m. and arrived quickly to begin resuscitation attempts, De Telegraaf reports. Despite their efforts, the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to statements from bystanders, the victim was discovered beneath his windsurf sail. However, police have not confirmed that detail.

The exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear. Officials said the man’s identity is known to police. Authorities have not released further information.
