Parachutist stuck on an antenna mast in Oss; Emergency services at the scene

A parachutist got stuck on an antenna mast on Aengelbertlaan in Oss at around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Emergency services are at the scene trying to get the parachute untangled from the mast and rescue the man.

Firefighters and a regional commander from the northern area of Noord-Brabant were dispatched to the scene just before 7 a.m. About 20 minutes later, they requested assistance from a team based in Eindhoven that specializes in rescues at greater distances above the ground. The fire brigade’s aerial platform could not reach the parachutist.

A spokesperson for the fire brigade told Brabants Dagblad that the parachutist got tangled up when jumping from the antenna mast, something he’s done before, although it is not officially allowed. The man’s condition is unknown.

There are four rescue teams in the Netherlands that are called in for emergency responses at unusual heights, depths, and “other difficult-to-reach places,” according to the national fire service. Aside from the Eindhoven team in the Brabant-Zuidoost emergency services area, teams are based in Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Utrecht, and Zeeland.

These teams operate nationally when requested by other emergency services regions. “To accelerate the speed of deployment and increase the area of operation, the police helicopter can be used” to transport crews, the fire department said on its website.
