Man, 67, arrested in Drenthe for possible kidnapping

A 67-year-old man from Sappemeer was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of involvement in a possible kidnapping in Klazienaveen, Drenthe, police reported. The incident reportedly occurred around 5:30 p.m. Authorities are withholding details about the victim and suspect amid an ongoing investigation.

According to authorities, the victim was forcibly taken from a business premises on Langestraat. The suspect allegedly used a firearm to threaten the victim before forcing them into a car.

The vehicle was seen in multiple locations, including the Angelslo neighborhood in Emmen. Approximately one hour after the suspected abduction, the victim was released near the N34 highway at Klijndijk, just north of Emmen. Police have not ruled out additional arrests as the investigation continues.

Due to privacy concerns and the ongoing nature of the case, a police spokesperson declined to disclose the identity of the victim or clarify whether the suspect and victim were known to each other. “What exactly happened will become clear through the investigation,” the spokesperson said.
