Showers to make way for dry, if chilly weekend; Warmer, sunnier weather next week

Thursday and Friday will be cold and wet, with showers falling across the Netherlands. The weekend will be dry, with room for sunshine. Next week, the sun will shine abundantly, and temperatures will climb into the double digits, according to the meteorological institute KNMI.

Thursday afternoon will be cloudy. “There will be a few showers, sometimes with hail,” the KNMI said. Maximums will climb to around 8 degrees, chilly for the time of year. The long-term climate average for maximums in mid-March is around 10 degrees. The northerly wind will be weak to moderate but can be quite strong along the northwest coast.

The showers will continue into the evening. Overnight, there will be some clearings, but coastal areas can still expect rain. Minimums will drop to between -4 degrees inland and 3 degrees on the coast.

Friday will still see some showers but also room for sunshine. The rain should clear up in most places during the afternoon, and maximums will climb to around 9 degrees, with a weak to moderate northerly wind.

For this weekend, the KNMI expects dry, but chilly weather. The days will be a mix of sunshine and clouds, with a weak to moderate wind. Maximums will climb to around 8 degrees on Saturday and 9 degrees on Sunday. The nights will be icy, with minums dropping to -3 degrees.

Next week, the Netherlands will see a touch of spring weather. Monday will still have some clouds, but after that, the sun will shine abundantly. Maximums will also hit double digits on Monday and climb to up to 15 degrees by Wednesday, the KNMI expects. The nights will still be cold, with minimums hovering around freezing.

After that, the meteorological institute expects a transition to fairly mild weather with occasional sunshine and a higher chance of showers.
