Just under 66,000 e-cigarettes and vapes seized in January; half from store in Almere

Almost 66,000 illegal electric cigarettes, vapes and e-liquids were seized in January. These items were found at seven different locations in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Almere. The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority's (NVWA) have been able to seize vapes and e-liquids since the beginning of the year.

The people who were caught selling these items will be hit with a fine. The fee that they will be ordered to pay is still unknown but it can go up to 22,500 euros. People caught selling the items also have to pay for the destruction of the materials.

Electric cigarettes are only allowed to taste like tobacco. Other flavors are banned. This was done in order to prevent young people from being tempted into smoking by the sweet flavors.

Over 28,000 illegal electric cigarettes and bottles with e-liquids of sweet taste were found at a shop in Almere. There were also 10 kilos of cannabis buds found at the store.

This led to the mayor of Almere closing the story temporarily. However, this did not stop the store owner as he continued selling illegal vapes. Customers were able to order the vapes online and have them delivered to a specific location.

The NVWA and the police found the cellar where the sales were happening. Inspectors seized another 5,400 illegal vapes from there.
