Manhunt underway in The Hague after shooting in broad daylight on Tuesday; One hurt
One man was left injured Tuesday morning after gunshots rang out on the Driebergenstraat in The Hague. The suspect managed to escape from the scene after the 10:45 a.m. incident, police said.
The victim appeared to have been shot in the leg, witnesses told Omroep West. A woman who lives nearby had come to the man's aid after the shooting. “I saw that man laying there, and he was yelling ‘help help help’,” said John, an area resident. He called emergency services, and police arrived soon after.
The victim was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital. His current condition is unknown.
“Things regularly happen on this street, but something like this has never occurred in the 30 years that I have lived here,” he told the broadcaster.
The suspect fled from the scene, and police asked the public's assistance in finding the alleged gunman. Authorities were looking for a man with a darker skin tone who was wearing black clothing, including a black hat and a black backpack.
He was last seen getting away from the Driebergenstraat, which is in the Leyenburg neighborhood and close to the Zuiderpark. Police cautioned that the man could be dangerous, and witnesses should not approach him. Instead, anyone who sees him should contact emergency services straight away.
A bulletin with the suspect's details was also published on the public alert system Burgernet at about 11 a.m.. The message was withdrawn at around noon.
