Luna remains the most popular dog name in the Netherlands for 2024

The name "Luna" has once again secured its position as the most popular dog name in the Netherlands for 2024, according to new data from Figo Pet Insurance.

For male dogs, "Max" leads as the top choice, with names such as "Moos" and "Ollie" closely following. Among female dogs, Luna has dominated the rankings for nearly a decade. Other frequently chosen female names include "Bella," "Nala," and "Pip".

Films and cartoons continue to inspire pet owners, with names like "Nala" and "Simba" from The Lion King remaining popular choices. Similarly, names from Disney classics and other animated movies—such as "Balou" from The Jungle Book and "Belle" from Beauty and the Beast.

In addition to traditional names, some dog owners have opted for humor or originality when naming their pets. Unconventional choices such as "Trumpie," "Papi Chulo," and "Slipper" have emerged as alternatives to more conventional names.

Interestingly, there is a growing preference for international names, particularly English and French options. Names like "Teddy," "Charlie," and "Milo" have gained popularity among Dutch dog owners. French-inspired names such as "Coco" and "Loulou" have also risen in prominence.
