Amateur team Quick Boys beat Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch cup
Quick Boys has caused the first upset of the Dutch cup competition, the KNVB Beker, this season. The amateur team from Katwijk beat Fortuna Sittard, the eighth-place team in the highest Dutch division, the Eredivisie, 3-1 at the Sportpart Nieuw Zuid. The match was temporarily suspended for about 15 minutes right before halftime due to a fire on a nearby dune and a confrontation between both supporter groups.
Fortuna took the lead after 20 minutes was played. Alessio Da Cruz finished off a nice attack by the visitors. Quick Boys, the league leaders in the Tweede Divisie, turned the game around in the closing stages of the first half. Nick Broekhuizen scored the equalizer before Milan Zonneveld made it 2-1 with an assist from Broekhuizen.
The last three minutes of the first half were played after the interruption, and the teams started the second half straight after this. Zonneveld scored his second of the game four minutes later. The attacker headed the ball into the net while Fortuna goalkeeper Luuk Koopmans was out of his goal.
Other games in the cup competition on Tuesday saw PSV and Feyenoord advance to the next round. PSV hammered amateur team Koninklijke HFC 8-0, while Feyenoord struggled to beat second-division side MVV away, winning 1-2.
More amateur teams are scheduled to play in the KNVB Beker on Wednesday and Thursday evening.
