ASML pushing millions into four housing construction projects in Brainport region
ASML is pushing several million euros into four housing construction projects in Noord-Brabant that have a budget gap. Due to the chip machine maker’s financial contribution, the construction of 1,085 homes can continue, Omroep Brabant reports.
According to the regional broadcaster, it involves 305 homes in the municipality of Veldhoven, 104 in Helmond, and two projects with 276 and 400 homes in Eindhoven. Earlier this year, the company already promised financial support for two other housing projects in the Brainport region. The homes involved are social housing and regulated mid-range rentals.
The Brainport region, which consists of 21 Noord-Brabant municipalities, has a significant housing shortage, partly due to ASML’s success and growing need for workers. But the chip machine maker stressed that the supported projects aren’t homes intended for ASML staff.
“Think of a school teacher, a police officer, or people in healthcare,” ASML project leader Frieda Rikkers told Omroep Brabant. “These are people who earn a good salary. Especially with the current housing prices, it is often not easy for them to find a home. We simply think it is very important that everyone here in the region has a nice roof over their head.”
ASML wants to continue supporting housing projects in the Brainport region, Rikkers said. “The high-tech industry has experienced major growth in the region. ASML is a major player in that. With growth comes a certain amount of responsibility.” The company currently aims to help build 25,000 homes in the region.
